Yutaka Yaguchi's 36th Annual Mountain States Summer Camp (Camp Nakayama
2008) |
| Sensei
Yutaka Yaguchi, 9th Dan ISKF, and Chief Instructor of British Columbia,
hosted his 36th annual Mountain States Summer Karate Camp in Greeling,
Colorado, USA. The camp was held from July 31 to August 3/08 on the University of Northern
Colorado campus, and was attended by approximately 200 karate-ka from
all over North America. Classes were taught by senior ISKF
Instructors including Sensei's Okazaki, Fields, Woon-a-tai, Jones and
Cline. Sensei Krister and Sempai Paige were
fortunate to be able to attend this years camp. Below are are a
few pictures from the camp that I thought were worth posting.

Shotokan Karate Seminars and Dan Examinations by
Sensei Hiro Okazaki, 7th Dan ISKF - July 10 to 13, 2008 |
| Sensei Hiroyoshi Okazaki, 7th
dan ISKF, visited Vancouver from July 10 to 13, 2008. Sensei Okazaki,
from Philadelphia USA, is one of the most dynamic, up and coming young instructors in the ISKF.
During his stay he conducted a series of seminars for all ages and
levels, as well as dan examinations for Shodan and Nidan.

Master Camp - June 6 to 13, 2008 - Camp Green Lane, Pennsylvania, USA |
| Sempai Paige was fortunate to be
able to attend this years Master Camp in Philadelphia, USA, hosted by
Master Teruyuki Okazaki, 10th dan ISKF. Sensei Okazaki's guest
instructor this year was Master Hirokazu Kanazawa, 10th dan SKI and Chief Instructor of
Shotokan Karate International. Paige reports back that the
camp was "phenominal". Paige was kept very busy with three
classes per day over the course of the week. On top of that, he
attended four instructor training sessions, and completed his judges
written and practical exams. |

Sensei Kanazawa signing what had to be one of hundreds
of autographs during the course of the week. Sensei Kanazawa is
renowned as one of the most accomplished instructors to have come out of
the old Japan Karate Association. He now heads one of the largest
international organizations, Shotokan Karate International. |

Hinode Karate Shinnenkai -

Shinnenkai - A
shinnenkai (Japanese 新年会, lit. "new year gathering") is the Japanese
tradition of welcoming the arrival of the New
Year, usually by the drinking of alcohol and soda
pop. A shinnenkai
is generally held among co-workers, friends or karate-ka in early January.
The
Hinode Shinnenkai will take place at Bella Candela, 109 West Esplanade,
North Vancouver
– Saturday January 5, 2008 from 6:00pm to ???
Hinode Karate will be throwing a Shinnenkai on
Saturday, January 5, 2008. Shinnenkai, in Japanese, literally means
"New Years Gathering". It is the Japanese tradition of
welcoming the arrival of the new year, usually by the drinking of alcohol and
soda pop. Shinnenkai usually take place in "Izakaya"
(restaurants that offer drinks and various small to middle sized dishes, and
offer a perfect atmosphere for such gatherings) and are normally held
among co-workers, friends or karate-ka in early January. Our Hinode
Shinnenkai is open to all Hinode karate-ka, spouses, siblings and friends.
Here's all the info you will need for our
Shinnenkai:
Date: Saturday, January 5, 2008.
Time: 6:00pm or there abouts.
Cost: $15 per person all
inclusive (excluding alcoholic beverages). Payment can be made at the
dojo, and guests of the dojo can pay at the door - just let us know that
you're coming.
Menu:

spicy chicken wings

Assorted pizzas
Pop
Tea
Coffee
* Alcholic drinks are extra, and will have to be
paid for separately.
